Now that I’m back to working out, I’ve been getting help with my free weight lifting form. Get some help from someone who knows what they’re doing so your shoulders are truly back in retracted mode. Keep your weights in the zone where your lifts will generate the most good; where there’s still tension in both directions you move the weights. This exercise can be easily done in a home workout with readily weights available for $10-$20. These are 5 lbs. each.

Proper weight lifting form and other exercise movement becomes more crucial the older you get. You not only get the best workout, but you can save yourself some serious medical conditions. Too many adults hurt their ankles and knees kicking incorrectly when doing their martial arts forms. And my weight trainer sees countless examples of bad weight lifting form at her regular gym she works out at.

The martial arts forms you see are choreographed to showcase that you’re doing the moves properly, not just look cool though of course they do. Having the strength training will help you do your martial arts forms even better, or just go through your day lifting groceries and other things easier. Weight training builds muscle and can help stave off disease. It’s highly recommended for me, since I had gestational diabetes.
